People come from all over the Midwest and beyond to check out all Eagle River has to offer. The city is conveniently located on Hwy 45 that stretches through Wisconsin’s Northwoods, and many summer home owners from southern Wisconsin and Illinois will fly in to the Eagle River Union Airport for the season.
But, summer isn't the only season attraction. Eagle River is known as the Snowmobile Capital of the World and is the annual location for the World Championship Snowmobile Derby. The World Snowmobile Headquarters and International Snowmobile Hall of Fame are winter attractions.
Every year area fire fighters build an ice castle on a local lake, a tradition that has been taking place for nearly 100 years. The facade of the frozen palace usually reaches about 20 feet tall. “We usually start building it around the weekend right before New Years, “ said Pat Weber of the City of Eagle River Fire Department. “We choose a location where the most people can drive by and enjoy it. It’s been a tremendous tradition that people look forward to seeing and building every year.”
When downtown, if you’re looking for a place to eat, look no further than the Blue Heron Super Club and Lounge on Duck Lake. It’s one of the best kept dining secrets of the Northwoods. Visitors rave about the restaurant’s versatility, serving everything from a classic Wisconsin Friday night fish fry to unique chicken alfredo pizza.
Currently, the lake home and lake access real estate market is experiencing high inventory and extended amount of days on the market according to local real estate professionals. Ray Weber is a local Broker Associate at Eliason Realty in downtown Eagle River and St. Germain. He was born and raised in Wisconsin’s Northwoods, and has seen many ups and downs in the local lake home market. “Now is a great time to buy,” he said. “It’s about as good as it gets. There are many incredible lake properties on the market that fit just about any price range. If you’re looking for a luxury lake home, a vacant lake access lot, or a 1 bedroom cottage on the chain, you will be able to check out a good cross section of the market. Weber is well known on St. Germain Lake, Little St. Germain Lake, Lost Lake, and Found Lake. After 25 years specializing in lake properties, Weber claims that this market provides great opportunity. “A second home is a great investment, especially in this economy, and you get to enjoy everything it has to offer, too.”
